Best Beach Destinations in Dubai – Know Everything Before Your Next Beach Escape

Quick answer: Dubai’s beach season has just switched on, the sea is a bath-warm ~31°C through October, and the open secret is that most of the best sand is completely free: JBR’s The Beach under the Ain Dubai wheel, the freshly upgraded Kite Beach, and Sunset Beach with its Burj Al Arab views and floodlit night swims. Pay only when you are buying a scene: the headline news there is that La Mer is gone, reborn as J1 Beach with 13 licensed clubs (day rates around AED 250–300), while Palm West Beach runs the boardwalk-and-lounger lifestyle on the Palm. For quiet, Al Mamzar’s lagoons cost AED 5, and Black Palace Beach stays Dubai’s barefoot secret. Swim between the flags, remember lifeguards clock off at sunset, and if anything here tempts you onto the water itself, our water sports desk takes it from there.

Our featured photo is the whole argument in one frame: JBR’s sand crowded with umbrellas, jet-ski trails stitching white arcs across the green water, the inflatable aqua park bobbing offshore, yachts idling out toward the Palm, and the great white circle of Ain Dubai presiding over all of it from Bluewaters Island. One beach, and it contains a free family day, an adrenaline morning, a floating obstacle course and the world’s tallest observation wheel. That density is Dubai’s beach scene in miniature: fifty-plus kilometres of coastline where the free and the fabulous share the same water.

And late September is exactly when this guide earns its keep. The heat has broken, the whole outdoor city is reopening, the beach clubs are rolling out their loungers for the new season this very week, and the sea holds summer’s warmth for months after the air cools: October swimming in Dubai is the best-kept scheduling secret in the Gulf.

Below, the best beaches in Dubai sorted the way locals actually use them: the free icons, the glam sands (including the name-change that fools half the internet), the quiet corners locals protect, and the beach-smart rules that keep a perfect day perfect. Everything verified September 2026.

The Free Icons: JBR, Kite Beach & Sunset Beach

Dubai’s beaches, decoded. Infographic: Mayra Tours
  • JBR / The Beach (free): the postcard of our featured photo and Dubai’s most complete free beach day: broad white sand, calm swimming, the running track and outdoor gym, The Walk’s cafes a barefoot stroll away, and the offshore inflatable aqua park for the kids’ hour of glorious falling over. The backdrop is Ain Dubai, the world’s tallest observation wheel at 250 metres, and here is the freshness note competitors keep missing: the wheel is spinning again, having officially reopened on 26 December 2024, so the view from our photo can be yours from a climate-controlled pod; Ain Dubai tickets are on our shelf. Jet-ski and parasail operators work the marked zone offshore when you want the water loud.
  • Kite Beach, Umm Suqeim (free): Dubai’s sportiest sand came out of a full upgrade in February 2026 with its facilities polished and its personality intact: kitesurfers stacking loops at dawn, the 14-km running track crowd, volleyball nets, food trucks, and the classic Burj Al Arab sightline down the shore. It is the beach that made us write a whole Kite Beach playbook; consider this the trailer.
  • Sunset Beach, Umm Suqeim (free): the photographer’s beach: the closest public sand to the Burj Al Arab, Dubai’s only real surf break when winter swells arrive, and home to the city’s signature after-dark amenity: a floodlit night-swimming stretch where the sea stays open long after the lifeguard flags come down elsewhere. Golden hour here is the cheapest world-class photo in the Emirates; our photo points guide has the exact angles.

The Glam Sands: J1 Beach & Palm West Beach

The name-change PSA: if you are searching for La Mer, stop; the beloved beachfront was demolished in 2022 and reborn as J1 Beach, which opened its first clubs in late 2024. Half the internet’s “La Mer guides” are describing a place that no longer exists. What stands there now is a 500-metre strip of 13 licensed beach clubs and restaurants (Gigi Rigolatto, Sirene by GAIA, Bâoli and friends), golf-cart shuttles between venues, and a far more grown-up price tag.
  • J1 Beach, Jumeirah 1 (club rates): this is where you pay for the scene, and the scene delivers: sugar-white private sand, pools, DJs easing from lunch into golden hour, and Burj Al Arab views from the terraces. Budget roughly AED 250 weekday / AED 300 weekend for a typical club day pass (Ninive Beach’s current rates are the honest benchmark), with the grander venues above that and big names like Cipriani Lido still to join in 2027. The strip only gets starrier from here.
  • Palm West Beach (free-to-stroll, club-to-lounge): the Palm’s boardwalk answer: a palm-lined promenade of clubs and restaurants where a sunset walk costs nothing and a lounger day runs from accessible (some venues from ~AED 100 redeemable) to full glamour. Pair it with The View at The Palm to see the frond you just swam off from 240 metres up, or arrive the best way there is: by water, with a yacht charter around the Palm’s crescent.
Beach Cost Claim to fame
JBR / The Beach Free Ain Dubai backdrop, aqua park, the everything-beach
Kite Beach Free Kitesurf mornings, running track, 2026 upgrade
Sunset Beach Free Burj Al Arab views, surf, floodlit night swims
J1 Beach (ex-La Mer) AED 250–300 day pass 13 licensed clubs, Dubai’s newest beach address
Palm West Beach Stroll free; clubs ~AED 100+ Boardwalk lifestyle with skyline-across-the-water views
Al Mamzar Beach Park AED 5 (AED 30/car) Calm lagoons, lawns, BBQ pits, family space
Black Palace Beach Free The secret sand between palaces; zero facilities, zero crowds

The Quiet Corners: Al Mamzar & Black Palace

  • Al Mamzar Beach Park, Deira side (AED 5 per person, AED 30 per car): the best value ticket in Dubai leisure: five beaches and sheltered lagoons so calm they double as toddler pools, real lawns under real trees, BBQ pits for the full subcontinental-Sunday production, chalets for rent and skyline views back toward Sharjah’s border towers. It is where residents go when they want the sea without the show; pack the cooler and make a day of it (our picnic guide rates it accordingly).
  • Black Palace Beach, Al Sufouh (free): Dubai’s worst-kept secret and still somehow empty: a raw, facility-free strip of soft sand between royal palace compounds, reached by a short sandy path off Al Sufouh Road. No loungers, no lifeguards, no cafes, which is precisely the point: Burj Al Arab to your left, the Palm to your right, and space to breathe in between. Bring water, take your litter home, and swim conservatively; nobody is watching this stretch.

Beach Smart: Flags, Night Swims & Season Facts

  • The flags are the law of the water: green means go, yellow means caution, red means stay out, however inviting it looks; rip currents on windy days are Dubai’s most underestimated hazard. Lifeguards patrol the public beaches through the day and clock off around sunset, after which unlit stretches are officially closed to swimming.
  • Night swims, done right: the after-dark exception is deliberate and brilliant: floodlit night-swimming zones, led by Umm Suqeim’s lit stretch by Sunset Beach, keep supervised sea open into the late evening. In the warm months this is arguably Dubai’s single best free experience: 30-degree water, city lights, no sunscreen required. Swim in the lit zones only; dark water plus no lifeguard is how good stories go wrong.
  • Sharing the water: jet-ski and towed-sports operators work marked offshore zones buoyed away from swimmers (you can see the separation in our featured photo); keep inside the swim buoys and the system works for everyone. Drones need permits, and modest-to-normal beachwear is fine on the sand everywhere; cover up when you head into the malls behind.
  • The season, by the numbers: the sea peaks around 31°C in October and stays genuinely swimmable all winter (bottoming near a bracing-for-Dubai 20–21°C in February), while air temps glide from low 30s now to sweet low 20s by January. October to May is the golden run; summer beach days are dawn-and-dusk affairs. Weekday mornings own the space; Saturday afternoons at JBR are a contact sport.
  • The kit that matters: reef-safe sunscreen (the Gulf sun does not negotiate, even in “cool” season), water shoes for midday sand, a dirham card for Al Mamzar’s gate and paid parking apps elsewhere, and cash-free confidence: every kiosk from karak to kayak takes cards.

Beyond Dubai: The East Coast Escape

When the Gulf feels too familiar, the UAE keeps a second sea in reserve: ninety minutes east, the Indian Ocean side serves mountains-meet-water drama that Dubai’s coast cannot. Khorfakkan’s amphitheatre bay is the day-trip classic, and Snoopy Island’s snorkel reef is the closest thing to a house-reef holiday without a flight. Different water, different mood, same weekend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best beach in Dubai?

For one perfect all-rounder day, JBR / The Beach: free sand, calm swimming, the aqua park, cafes on The Walk and Ain Dubai overhead. Kite Beach wins for sport and energy, Sunset Beach for Burj Al Arab photos and night swims, J1 Beach for the club scene, and Al Mamzar for families who want lagoons and BBQ space. The honest answer is that the best beaches in Dubai are mostly free, so sample two or three in a single week.

Are Dubai’s beaches free?

The flagship public beaches are: JBR, Kite Beach, Sunset Beach and Black Palace cost nothing, with showers, tracks and facilities included at the first three. Al Mamzar Beach Park charges a token AED 5 per person (AED 30 per car). You pay only for the club experience: J1 Beach day passes run around AED 250 to 300, and Palm West Beach venues range from about AED 100 redeemable upward. Clubs sell loungers and scenes, not the sea.

What happened to La Mer beach?

La Mer South was demolished in 2022 and redeveloped into J1 Beach, which began opening in late 2024: a 500-metre strip of 13 licensed beach clubs and restaurants including Gigi Rigolatto, Sirene by GAIA and Bâoli, with more marquee names arriving through 2027. If a guide still describes La Mer’s old food trucks and murals, it is out of date; the address is now Dubai’s most polished beach-club row.

Can you swim at night in Dubai?

Yes, and it is wonderful, in the designated floodlit night-swimming zones, led by the lit stretch at Umm Suqeim near Sunset Beach. Outside those zones, swimming after the lifeguards finish around sunset is prohibited on public beaches, and worth respecting: the lit zones exist precisely so warm-night swims stay supervised and safe.

Is Ain Dubai open?

Yes: after its long pause, Ain Dubai officially reopened on 26 December 2024 and the 250-metre wheel is turning over Bluewaters again, which means the JBR beach day now ends properly, with a 38-minute rotation above the exact sand you spent it on. Tickets are on our site, and sunset slots book out first for obvious reasons.

When is the best time for beaches in Dubai?

October through May. Right now is the season’s opening gift: the air has cooled into the low 30s while the sea still holds a bath-warm ~31°C, and the water stays swimmable all winter. Weekday mornings are calm everywhere; weekends peak at JBR and Kite Beach from late afternoon. Summer beach visits work at dawn and after dark in the lit zones, with the clubs’ reduced redeemable summer rates as consolation.
