Dubai with kids 2026 - honest guide to family attractions by age including Dubai Safari Park giraffe feeding, by Mayra Tours

Dubai With Kids: The Honest Guide to Family Attractions by Age

Quick answer: the right Dubai attraction depends far more on your child’s age and height than on any “top 10” list. Under 3: Green Planet, Dubai Aquarium, beaches and parks, and almost everything is free for them. Ages 3 to 6: Legoland, OliOli, Dubai Safari Park and Kids Farm. Ages 7 to 12: KidZania, IMG Worlds, water parks, Ski Dubai. Teenagers: Aquaventure, Burj Khalifa, desert safari, water sports. The rule that decides most theme park rides is the 1.2 metre height limit, not age. Dubai Safari Park entry starts around AED 50 for adults with under-3s free, Green Planet is roughly AED 99 adult, and OliOli about AED 90. Outdoor family days work best from October to April.

There is a photo almost every family comes home with. A small child, standing very still, holding out a lettuce leaf while a giraffe leans down over a fence to take it. It happens at the Explorer Village at Dubai Safari Park, three times a day, and it is worth more to most children than any rollercoaster in the city.

It is also a good example of why generic family guides fail. That giraffe moment is magic at four years old and mildly interesting at fourteen. Meanwhile the theme park your teenager will love has a height limit your six-year-old cannot clear, and you only discover that at the front of the queue. Dubai is genuinely one of the easiest cities on earth to visit with children, but the attractions are not interchangeable, and the wrong booking wastes both money and one of your precious holiday days.

So this guide to Dubai with kids is organised the way parents actually plan: by age group. What works, what it costs, what to skip, and the practical rules nobody puts in the brochure. All prices and details were checked in August 2026 and are gate rates unless stated, so online booking usually comes in lower.

Four things decide whether a family day in Dubai goes well, and none of them appear on the ticket page:

  • Height beats age. Most theme park and water park rides use a height requirement, commonly 1.2 metres, rather than an age limit. A tall six-year-old rides more than a small nine-year-old. Measure your child at home and check the ride list before you pay.
  • Under 3s are usually free. Dubai Safari Park, Green Planet and most attractions admit children under three at no charge. Carry ID if asked.
  • Some attractions are seasonal. Dubai Safari Park closes over the summer and returns for Season 8 in October 2026. Miracle Garden, Global Village and outdoor parks follow the same pattern.
  • Summer changes everything. From June to September, outdoor attractions are only realistic before about 9 AM. The rest of the day is indoor territory, and Dubai is exceptionally well equipped for that.
The single best planning tip in this guide: one big attraction per day, not two. Dubai’s family attractions are large and hot, and children hit their limit around the four-hour mark. A morning at Legoland followed by an afternoon at the aquarium sounds efficient and ends in tears. Build in pool time between anything ticketed.

Babies & Toddlers (Under 3)

Mostly free entry · Short visits, air conditioning

What actually works at this age

Honesty first: a toddler does not need a ticketed attraction to have a good day in Dubai. What works is short, cool and sensory. Green Planet at City Walk is the standout, a four-storey indoor rainforest with sloths, birds and a canopy walk, compact enough to finish in 90 minutes before anyone melts down, at roughly AED 99 adult and AED 79 for ages 3 to 12, with under-3s free. The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo inside Dubai Mall works for the same reason: a walk-through tunnel, plenty to point at, and you are already indoors. Beyond that, beach parks in the cooler months, hotel pools, and the shaded lawns in our guide to the top 10 picnic places in Dubai will do more for a two-year-old than anything with a queue.

  • Best picks: Green Planet, Dubai Aquarium, Kids Farm at Dubai Safari Park, beach parks, Al Barsha Pond Park.
  • Skip for now: Burj Khalifa (the view means nothing at this age), theme parks, anything with a queue longer than the attention span.
  • Practical: Dubai is exceptionally stroller-friendly, malls and attractions have nursing rooms, and taxis are cheap. Ask for a car seat when you book transfers.

Ages 3 to 6: The Sweet Spot

This is the age Dubai with kids works best, because the city is full of family attractions designed precisely for children who are mobile, curious and not yet chasing adrenaline:

Al Warqa 5 · From about AED 50 adult · Seasonal

Dubai Safari Park: the giraffe-feeding one

Six zones across a huge site with more than 3,000 animals, a train that saves small legs, live shows, and the animal encounters that make the trip: giraffe feeding at the Explorer Village runs at set times through the day, with goat, lemur, bird and tortoise feeding at the Kids Farm and African Village. Entry has typically started around AED 50 for adults with reduced child rates and under-3s free, and bundles add the 35-minute Explorer Safari. It closes for summer and returns for Season 8 in October 2026, so check before building a day around it. Go early: animals are active in the cool hours and asleep by lunchtime.

Dubai Parks & Resorts · Built for ages 2 to 12

Legoland Dubai: the only park genuinely scaled to small kids

Six themed zones, more than 40 rides, a driving school, and Miniland’s Lego versions of Dubai landmarks. Nothing here is designed to terrify anyone, which is exactly the point at this age. The adjoining Legoland Water Park is built to the same brief. If your children are between 2 and 12, this is the theme park to choose; if they are 13 and up, it will feel young, and IMG Worlds is the better call.

Al Quoz · Around AED 90 · Ages 2 to 11

OliOli: the one Dubai parents recommend

A hands-on children’s museum with eight themed galleries covering air rockets, water play, sound and light. It is indoors, it is affordable, and it holds attention far longer than its size suggests. Ask any Dubai-resident parent for one recommendation and this is usually it. Bring a change of clothes for the water gallery. Book through our OliOli tickets page.

Ages 7 to 12: The Golden Age

Tall enough for most rides, old enough to remember it, still happy to do things as a family. This is when Dubai opens up completely:

  • KidZania (Dubai Mall, ages 4 to 14): a kid-sized city where children work real jobs as pilots, surgeons, firefighters and journalists, earn currency and spend it. The single best-value indoor day in Dubai for this age group, and the one children talk about for months.
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure: the world’s largest indoor theme park, with Marvel and Cartoon Network zones. Fully air conditioned, which makes it the summer default. Check height limits on the bigger coasters.
  • Water parks: Aquaventure at Atlantis for scale, Wild Wadi for a more manageable day with Burj Al Arab views, Laguna at La Mer for a half day. Full comparison in our guide to water activities in Dubai.
  • Ski Dubai: penguin encounters and snow play at Mall of the Emirates. Genuinely novel for children who have never seen snow, and blissfully cold in August.
  • Dubai Frame: the glass-floor sky bridge is a hit at this age, unlike with toddlers who find it dull. Pair it with Zabeel Park below.
  • Family desert safari: ask specifically for a gentler version. Reputable operators will cut the extreme dune bashing, and camel rides are generally suitable from about age five. Our desert safari packages can be adjusted for young children on request.
About the desert safari with kids: the standard evening safari opens with 20 minutes of dune bashing, which many children love and some find genuinely distressing. There is no shame in requesting a no-dune-bashing version; you still get the camp, the camels, the henna, the food and the sunset. Tell us when booking and we will arrange it.

Teenagers (13+)

The age where Legoland becomes an insult and the good stuff opens up. Teenagers want three things in Dubai: adrenaline, water, and something worth posting:

  • Aquaventure at Atlantis: record-breaking slides and a full day’s worth of them. The clear winner for this age.
  • Water sports: jet ski from around AED 350 for 30 minutes, parasailing, flyboarding (usually age 15 and over). This is where teenagers stop being bored.
  • Burj Khalifa At The Top: now the view actually lands. Book a sunset slot and let them take the photos. Our guide to saving money on Burj Khalifa tickets covers prime versus non-prime pricing.
  • Desert safari, full version: dune bashing, sandboarding and quad bikes, exactly the parts you skip with younger children.
  • The Palm from above: The View at The Palm, or a helicopter flight if the budget stretches. Compared in our guide to the best way to see Palm Jumeirah.
  • Ain Dubai and the Marina boardwalk for an easy evening that does not feel like a family outing.

Mixed-Age Families: The Dubai Family Attractions That Work for Everyone

Travelling with a four-year-old and a fourteen-year-old is the hardest brief in family travel. These are the places where both ends of that range are genuinely happy:

Attraction Why it works for everyone
Aquaventure Toddler splash zones, a lazy river and extreme slides on one ticket
Dubai Safari Park Animal feeding for little ones, guided safari tour for older kids
Dubai Mall Aquarium, KidZania, ice rink and the fountain in one air-conditioned block
Beach parks Free-form, no tickets, and everyone self-entertains
Dhow cruise dinner Seated, fed, entertained, and finished by bedtime
Global Village (Oct to May) Funfair rides, street food and shows, all outdoors in the cool season

What to Skip (and Why)

The honest part. Every one of these is a fine attraction; they are simply wrong for certain ages:

  • Burj Khalifa with under-5s. They will not care about the view, the queue is long, and prime tickets are expensive. Wait until seven or eight.
  • Legoland with teenagers. It is built for ages 2 to 12 and they will know it within an hour.
  • Two ticketed attractions in one day, at any age. The second one is always the one nobody enjoys.
  • Outdoor parks between June and September, after 9 AM. Not a preference, a safety point.
  • Full-throttle dune bashing with nervous or very young children. Ask for the gentler version instead of hoping for the best.
  • Long mall days as an “activity.” Malls are excellent refuges from heat, but a day built around one rarely becomes a holiday memory.

A 5-Day Family Itinerary That Holds Up

Day Plan Why it is placed here
Day 1 Beach or pool morning, Dubai Mall aquarium and fountain in the evening Gentle start while everyone adjusts to the heat
Day 2 Theme park day: Legoland for under-12s, IMG Worlds for older kids The biggest energy demand goes early in the trip
Day 3 Dubai Safari Park at opening, pool afternoon, early dinner Animals are active early; the afternoon is recovery time
Day 4 Water park all day Every age is occupied without you organising anything
Day 5 Family desert safari from mid-afternoon The trip’s best memory, saved for when everyone is settled

Practical Tips From Our Guides

  • Book online, not at the gate. Nearly every Dubai attraction prices online tickets below walk-up rates, and you skip the ticket queue with restless children in tow.
  • Arrive at opening. Theme parks, water parks and the safari park are all at their calmest in the first 90 minutes. Aquaventure opens around 9:30 AM.
  • Carry more water than feels reasonable and refill at stations inside parks. Dehydration is the most common reason a family day ends early.
  • Request car seats when booking transfers. They are not standard in Dubai taxis, but tour operators can provide them with notice.
  • Pack a change of clothes for anything involving water play, which includes OliOli and most kids’ zones.
  • Check what closes for summer. The seasonal calendar is in our guide to Dubai’s outdoor season and October reopenings.
  • Sort visas early if family are joining you. Our Dubai visa assistance covers 30 and 60-day options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Dubai attractions are best for toddlers?

Green Planet at City Walk, the Dubai Aquarium in Dubai Mall, the Kids Farm at Dubai Safari Park, and beach or pond parks in the cooler months. All are short, mostly indoors or shaded, and children under three usually enter free. Skip theme parks and the Burj Khalifa at this age.

What is the best age for the Burj Khalifa?

Around seven and upwards. Younger children rarely engage with the view, and the queue plus ticket price make it poor value for under-fives. From about seven, and especially for teenagers, a sunset slot is one of the highlights of a Dubai trip.

Is a desert safari suitable for young children?

Yes, if you request the right version. Standard evening safaris start with about 20 minutes of dune bashing, which some young children find frightening. Reputable operators offer gentler alternatives that skip it while keeping the camp, camel rides, henna, dinner and sunset. Camel rides are generally suitable from around age five.

Which Dubai theme park is best for kids?

Legoland Dubai for ages 2 to 12, since the whole park is scaled to that range across six zones and 40-plus rides. IMG Worlds of Adventure suits older children and teenagers, and is fully air conditioned, which makes it the summer choice. Check the 1.2 metre height requirement on bigger rides before booking.

Is Dubai Safari Park open all year?

No, it is seasonal. The park closes over the summer months and reopens for Season 8 in October 2026. Giraffe feeding at the Explorer Village and goat, lemur and bird feeding at the Kids Farm run at set times through the day, and animals are most active in the early morning.

How much does a family day out in Dubai cost?

It varies widely. A theme park day for a family of four can pass AED 1,000 once food is included, since major parks run roughly AED 300 or more per person. Cheaper options are plentiful: Green Planet is about AED 99 adult, OliOli around AED 90, Dubai Safari Park from about AED 50, and beaches, parks, the Dubai Fountain and the metro cost little or nothing.

What is there to do in Dubai with kids in summer?

Stay indoors between about 9 AM and 5 PM. IMG Worlds, KidZania, Ski Dubai, Green Planet, OliOli, the Dubai Aquarium and the malls’ entertainment zones are all air conditioned. Water parks work if you arrive at opening, and beaches only really work before 9 AM. Outdoor attractions like Dubai Safari Park are closed for the season anyway.
