The December slot
GITEX traditionally ran in October. The 2026 edition runs 7–11 December, right in Dubai’s peak season, overlapping the run-up to UAE National Day celebrations, winter tourism and pre-holiday corporate travel. The Expo City venue
The show moves to the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo City Dubai, the 45,000 square metre venue built for Expo 2020, sitting between Dubai Marina and Al Maktoum International Airport on the city’s southwestern edge. The practical consequences: hotels around the old World Trade Centre location are no longer the smart pick, Al Maktoum (DWC) becomes the closer airport at roughly 20 minutes versus 45 from Dubai International (DXB), and the Route 2020 metro extension becomes your best friend for the week.
Getting to Expo City: Metro, Taxi & Airports
- Metro (the smart default): Expo 2020 Station sits on the Red Line’s Route 2020 branch with direct trains, no transfer required. Downtown and the World Trade Centre area are about 40 minutes away, Dubai Marina and Ibn Battuta roughly 15–20 minutes. During GITEX week the metro reliably beats road traffic at opening and closing hours.
- Taxi and ride-hailing: Expo City to Downtown runs about AED 60–80 in normal traffic. Budget more time and money at 5–6 PM when the expo empties; surge pricing at the taxi ranks is a daily reality during major shows.
- From the airports: Al Maktoum (DWC) is around 20 minutes by car, Dubai International (DXB) 45 minutes, and Abu Dhabi International also about 45 minutes down the E11. If your route offers a DWC option, take it for this event.
- Driving: Expo City has extensive parking, but expo-week fill-up is real. Arrive before 9:30 AM or use the metro.

Rove Expo City deserves a special mention: it is the only hotel inside the venue district, under a 10-minute walk from the exhibition halls, with a co-working lounge, soundproofed rooms and a rooftop pool overlooking the Al Wasl dome. If your dates are fixed, book it the week you confirm attendance, and if it is gone, Dubai South plus the 5-minute metro hop is the closest substitute at a friendlier rate.
The New Events Visa (And Who Needs It)
The UAE’s 2026 visa overhaul introduced a dedicated Events visa for delegates, organisers and staff attending conferences and exhibitions, separate from the standard tourist visa and designed for exactly this kind of trip.
